Recently i followed the Sitecore XP 8 Website Development for .NET Developers (WND) training. I am happy to announce that I passed the exam and that I am now a Sitecore XP 8.0 Certified Professional Developer.

The Sitecore Experience Platform is one of the leading enterprise-level content management systems built on ASP.NET, enabling web content editors and marketers to have full control over all aspects of their website from social integration and blog posts to advanced personalization, e-commerce and more.
SharePoint or Sitecore
Since 2006 I have been involved in developing websites on the Microsoft SharePoint platform. Although the SharePoint journey has been one with ups and downs, it has enriched me with certain skills which are needed to implement SharePoint as a WCM solution. Earlier this year Microsoft discontinued the public-website offering on Office 365. Many perceived this decision as the end of public-facing websites on SharePoint. Microsoft made no announcements related to the WCM capabilities in SharePoint 2016 yet. Assuming that everything that was possible in SP2013 will still be available to us in SP2016, SharePoint will remain a solid WCM platform.
But since the market is shifting towards a more digital marketing oriented place, Sitecore is the more obvious choice. Digital Marketing functionality allows organizations to interface directly with the users who arrive at their websites, learn about them via their behaviors, and better target them with meaningful offerings based on those findings. Sure, SharePoint can do WCM, but SharePoint isn’t Sitecore’s peer when it comes to Digital Marketing.
What’s next?
As I said earlier, I have been developing websites on SharePoint for quite some time and I will continue to do so. Actually, I am working on a SharePoint 2013 WCM project as we speak. Diving into the Sitecore world is a great new challenge and I am looking forward to meeting new people in the Sitecore community and getting to know the Sitecore platform with all of it’s capabilities.
