Mavention Last Modified Documents app just got accepted in the Office Store.

With SharePoint 2013 you have the possibility to follow People, Documents, Sites and #Tags. With the Mavention Last Modified Documents app we retrieve the sites you follow from your user profile, based on these we retrieve the last modified documents through the search capabilities of SharePoint.

As people have often have at least read permissions on a fair amount of content on the portal just retrieving the last modified documents will give a less useful overview. By looking at the sites people follow you will get an overview more related to the user.

In order to use the SharePoint Search capabilities with this app you have to do some manual configuration. Upon installation of the app these steps will also be described on the app web, the steps are:

  1. Go to your Search Service Application and click Manage Search Schema
  2. Search for RefinableDate00 and from the context menu select Edit/Map property
  3. Then click the Add a Mapping button, search for ows_q_DATE_Modified and select the ows_q_DATE_Modified property
  4. Click on the OK button to commit the changes
  5. Make sure you have a few followed sites with content

After adding the above mapping you need to perform a full crawl for the changes to take effect. When you are using Office 365 it can take some time before the changes take effect as you cannot start a full crawl yourself.

The app part gives you some configurable options. The first is the managed search property to use, this way you are not bound to the RefinableDate00 property, without configuring the app part this property will default to RefinableDate00. Another option you can set is the amount of retrieved documents which defaults to 5. The last option you can set is the sort direction which will default to Descending.
